Empathy in not an instinct in many of us

But with training and mindfulness we can

Learn to care and feel for others

With the same depth that we have for ours

Offer understanding and compassion to those

Whom you see in pain , sickness, sadness and hopelessness

Extend hospitality of your heart, exchange their pain

With joy of yours, lightning and sharing the burden

  1. well said = and the couple of folks who I know that have struggled with empathy – well they actually had a personality disorder (narcissism) and this helped us understand their lack of empathy more – whew –

    my favorite line here:
    “Extend hospitality of your heart”
