“Why are you smiling?”
River Dixon, Beyond the Field
“Mom, I made a scarecrow to put in our corn fields” Alex proudly showed it to his mother. She took a look at the scarecrow and burst out laughing. ” Honey scarecrows are meant to scare away the birds but being scary, you know” she told him. “With your smiling and sweet looking scarecrow they are more likely to come and have a party at the corn fields!” Alex lost his enthusiastic smile and became sad, he had thought a smiling scarecrow would make things cheerful in the fields. He looked at his creation and asked grumpily, “Why are you smiling?”
