He sat here daily. Looking for work. At first people weren’t comfortable hiring him for anything physically taxing as he was very old. They would think that it was not fair to expect him to do hard physical labor but he would insist that he was a trained carpenter and would love to take up jobs, small and big. And he would do them remarkably well and quickly too.

One day, I sat by him and asked about his history. He told me that he had been doing this work since he was a teenager. He never married and had no living family. Carpentry was his passion and it kept him in bread and butter. He enjoyed his work and making things gave him a sense of achievement.

I was all admiration for such a gutsy guy.
