A strange encounter
She wasn’t supposed to go there by herself, certainly not alone. But there was a allure to the forest that she couldn’t resist. She stepped in the semi darkness and looked for the lake that she was told was in the middle of this dense forest. Her eyes took a while to get accustomed to the dim light. She approached cautiously avoiding the low hanging branches of the trees. Somewhere on the way, her dress got caught in a branch, or so she thought. She turned around to sort it out but the dress wasn’t caught in a twig, it was being held in a long boney hand. A feeling of fright overtook her mind. A scream escaped in the stillness of the forest dark. “Please don’t be frightened” A soothing voice came to her ears. She looked closely and saw that the hand belonged to a strange creature, part human, part tree. In wonder she stared at him, for it was a man and a tree.
“Who are you?” The question came trembling to her lips.”I am Prince of the forest, he replied. The witch has turned me into a tree, but every full moon, I can be part human” The prince explained with sadness. ” Is there no way to break this spell?” The tree man shook his head, ” None, unless I agree to marry the witch and let her rule my kingdom with me” Her heart was sad for the prince, but being a sensible woman, she knew that she was no match for the witch. Neither could she break the spell on her own.
Promising to plead his case with the leader of her tribe, she left the forest. Thinking that the warnings were well founded. “I should stay away from the forest in future”
