The festival of lanterns
The people had been waiting for this night all year. The children had specially made their own lantern and were so excited to launch them into the air by sunset, that last day of winter. All the people gathered in the big town square near the time when the sun was setting. The festival was celebrated every year to give thanks for a year that had gone by, giving them all its bounties and ample harvest. The food was plentiful and the fruits sweet and abundant. The people believed that by celebrating and giving thanks, their town prospered.
