It was an incongruous overture

He dared to do the unthinkable

Placing the dirty little ball on

The pristine white frock that she

Loved to wear and liked flaunting

He dumped it in her lap and

With his lopsided grin asking her

To throw it again and then again

As far as she could for as long

As her dear little doggy wanted to play
